Dear colleagues,

we would like to bring your attention to the EMS Summer School * CURVES & SURFACES -- a history of shapes * organised also with the support of CIRM (Trento).

This is the first edition of the biannual series TiME -- Treasures in Mathematical Encounters where we explore the huge heritage of the mathematicians of the past and connect it to modern mathematical research.

This first summer school is inspired by the work of G. Castelnuovo and F. Enriques. It focuses on the study of algebraic curves and surfaces and their modern applications.

Key ingredients of the summer school are 3 mini-courses:
- Laurent Busé (Inria Sophia Antipolis Méditerranée): Implicit representations of rational curves and surfaces
- Fabrizio Catanese (Bayreuth U.): The P{12}-theorem: an introduction to the classification of algebraic surfaces via its historical development
- Elisa Postinghel (Loughborough U.): Linear systems of hypersurfaces and beyond Besides that, we will also have exercise sessions, software tutorials and reading sessions of original literature.

Important data:
- When: September 2-6, 2019
- Where: Hotel Bellavista, Levico Terme (Italy) - Target audience: PhD students, postdocs, Master students
- Capacity: approx. 30 participants
- Funding: full boarding and lodging expenses of the participants which are not supported by their institutions will be covered, but travel expenses will not be covered
- Application: interested people should send a brief CV and motivation letter by April 30th, 2019 (see the webpage for more info)

More information on the program, how the reach the location, and the application form see: https://sites.google.com/view/time-2019/home

The organizers,
